Is leukemia a virus or bacteria?
Link below. Read!
Reply:You should look it up on Web MD for a longer answer--- but it is a virus-- viruses are anything that attacks the immune system adnd your blood cells, which lukemia does. A bacter is something a little different. For a longer answer, go to webmd.com and eithe rlook up lukemia, or virus vs. bacteria
Reply:It is not a bacteria or a virus. It is cancer of the blood or bone marrow. However, viruses have been linked to cause some forms of leukemia.
Reply:Luekemia is a cancer of the blood. It destroys bone marrow (Which makes blood cells) so it cannot produce healthy blood cells anymore. Then, since the body does not have healthy white or red blood cells, its immune system begins to fail (due to lack of white blood cells).

People w/ leukemia often need bone marrow transplants so they can produce healthy blood cells again.

also, a cancer is just an extreme growth of a cell, which then takes over healthy cells and spreads to other cells.
Reply:Mistyrwhite is probably thinking of feline leukemia virus. This germ causes one kind of cat leukemia. As yet, there is no link between any germ (bacterial or viral) and human leukemia. Stay tuned ....
Reply:Others are correct in that it is neither a virus or bacteria. Leukemia is a form of blood cancer, typically of the blood cells (white or red, depending on the kind of leukemia). The only link to cancer in general and viruses is cervical cancer and its link to the human papilloma virus.
Reply:40 years ago, the medical community believed in a virus called polyoma. Now they just perfected a vaccine made from dead polyoma virus cells. I,m sure they will now persue the theory that polyoma virus causes cancer.
